Beyond work
Beyond technology, I enjoy working with my hands. My hobbies range from ancient crafts and kitchen experiments to developing an idea entirely by myself.
The Iron Age appeals to me because it makes history tangible. Through Celtic reenactment, I explore both the period and its crafts: cooking over an open fire, working wood and metal, and needle binding.
Making something useful with limited, simple means requires patience, attention to materials and respect for techniques that have endured for centuries. Experiencing that history together with others makes it especially rewarding.
Cooking is a creative playground for me. I like starting from a classic dish and giving it my own twist, whether on the barbecue, in a stew or in a sauce that could use just a little more character.
I experiment with chillies, marinades and hot sauces, but balance matters more than heat alone. Smoke, acidity, sweetness, spices and umami should strengthen one another. Cooking for family and friends is very much part of the experience.
Whether it is an ESP32 project, a printed part, a piece of wood, a metal detail or a recipe, I enjoy projects that grow through experimentation. Adjusting along the way and making each version smarter or more refined is often the best part.
The common thread
My hobbies may seem varied at first, but they share a great deal. From a historic campfire to a smart sensor or a successful barbecue, the process matters just as much to me as the result.
